Health Hazard

What are Mycotoxins?

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds created by mold that can harm humans and animals.

Mycotoxins can cause serious health problems. They can even be lethal.

Molds release mycotoxins to guard their colonies from other bacteria and fungi, acting as mold's bodyguards.

Eliminate water sources that foster mold growth – and to treat mold and mycotoxins as urgently as possible.

Mycotoxins are Hard to Detect

These poisonous molecules can cause harm to people and pets in indoor environments where there is mold growth.

Because of their microscopic size (<1 nanometer), they cannot be seen with the human eye and can be difficult to detect. Mycotoxins can even be too small to be caught by a HEPA filter.

You may not even know they are there.

Mycotoxins are Easily Absorbed by Humans and Animals

Inhaling mycotoxins is the primary mode of harmful exposure.

Mycotoxins can also be absorbed through the skin by touching surfaces or materials infected with mold.

Mycotoxins are Harmful to Your Health

Mold toxicity caused by mycotoxin exposure is linked to short- and long-term health problems including:

- Allergic reactions
- Headaches and migraines
- Chronic respiratory illnesses
- Eye-related issues
- Inflammation and weakening of the immune system
- Neurological issues, dementia
- Cancer

Treating for Mycotoxins is as Important as Treating for Mold

Destroying mycotoxins in the home – and preventing them from returning – is possible with the right treatment.

As more has been learned about the dangers of mycotoxins, an updated remediation protocol is needed to include remediation of mycotoxins when removing mold.

While mold remediation may be successful in the home, it is not complete without mycotoxin remediation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Mycotoxins are released by mold into the air and onto the surfaces in your home. The optimal way to apply the Superstratum cleaner is to first fog the air in your home, then to carefully wipe down all the surfaces. For this, we recommend a fogger followed by cleaning with paper towels.

Many people still use bleach on mold, but they are using one toxic substance to attempt to kill another. Bleach removes the color from mold, but it does not kill the mold. Bleach also aggravates mold; the mold will send out mycotoxins as a defensive response. Superstratum cleaners are non-toxic.
